NEW MEMOIR CHRONICLES BTG FOUNDER DAGNIJA LACIS’ LIFE AS A TRAILBLAZER AND TECH ENTREPRENEUR

OakTreeBear Publishing is pleased to announce the publication on March 18, 2025, of THE WALL FALLS, A WOMAN RISES, A MEMOIR: How a U.S. Tech Entrepreneur Broke the Glass Ceiling and Helped Modernize Latvia by Dagnija Lacis, Founder, President, and CEO of BTG.

THE WALL FALLS, A WOMAN RISES chronicles the story of Dagnija Lacis, who many know as “Daggie”: how she left her beloved homeland of Latvia in 1944 to flee communism, how she immigrated to Indianapolis in 1950, went on to become the first woman programmer at Burroughs Corporation, the first woman line Vice President at Burroughs/Unisys, brought modern technology and SWIFT to her homeland and launched an international IT company, BTG.

The adventures Dagnija recounts include meeting the father of the computer, John Vincent Atanasoff. She shares his story of how he reached four crucial decisions about the “computing machine” one night in a roadhouse. Even today, every computer is based on those four principles.

After the Berlin Wall fell, Dagnija was invited to Latvia by the newly elected prime minister and foreign minister to install modern technology in the foreign ministry.  She remembers the remarkable incident that inspired her to launch BTG, when resourceful Latvian university students saved a major presentation by creating overnight two essential cables which hadn’t arrived.  She recounts the early years of BTG and recalls the colleagues who were part of those times.

BTG Unisys MCP System Administration and Support Personnel Available for Projects

BTG has administrative and support specialists available to support Unisys clients running their applications on Unisys’ Master Control Program (MCP) operational system.  BTG MCP specialists can provide a range of services including installation, support and daily administration of development and production systems on MCP platforms including, but not limited to, system and reports generation, database backup creation and tuning, creation of database clones, WFL configurations and installation of new AB Suite releases.  These MCP specialists are also skilled in MCP troubleshooting and resolving technical system issues for customers and internal development staff.  Many BTG MCP specialists have over 10 years of MCP experience.

BTG Shares Experiences from the AB Suite 7.0 Beta Test

Baltic Technology Group is one of Unisys’ key beta testers for new releases of Agile Business Suite (“AB Suite”) including the latest one – AB Suite 7.0.  The BTG team for the AB Suite 7.0 beta test participated in the Beta 2 test in February of 2018, as well as the Beta 4 test in October of 2018. Our testing approach and experiences are described in the article published in the July release of Unisys Developing Agility Newsletter.

Unisys and BTG Introduce Unisys Stealth® Software Suite in Latvia

On March 13, 2018, Baltic Technology Group (BTG) hosted an introductory seminar on the Unisys Stealth security software suite. Unisys Stealth® is an advanced software-defined cyber technology that lowers security risks, implements in-depth dynamic security, cloaks endpoints, prevents data exfiltration by malicious code and reduces security implementation costs. The Unisys Stealth solution is used by governments and businesses to protect their highly sensitive data, networks and systems.

Unisys representatives David Matthews – VP Security, EMEA and Salvatore Sinno – Chief Architect, Stealth gave a presentation on the product and discussed the use cases. The seminar was attended by IT specialists from several Latvian government and financial institutions as well as from a leading cybersecurity organization.
